Mallard is common in my area but not this albino Mallard. This is my first encounter. If there wasn’t a male Mallard nearby, I would believe I have found a new species. 🤣

It’s probably got some Leucism. A loss of pigmentation which causes white, pale, or patchy coloration of hair, skin, fur, or feathers, but not the eyes.

It was eye opening for me too when I learned of this condition. It was a Leucistic Hummingbird I saw that I too thought might have a new bird! 😀

“Leucistic” is correct, “albino” is not. Albino animals have no pigmentation – even their eyes have no color, appearing pink. That is definitely a one-of-a-kind mallard!
