Great Blue Heron in Fly

Nikon D300, 500mm PF, 1/1000s, f7.1, iso640

I don’t have much luck when come to photograph Bird In Fly. My reaction was either too slow or the bird are too fast for me. 99.9% of the time the bird are either out of focus, out of frame, or lost them through camera viewfinder.

Last few weeks, I have been practising shooting bird in fly shot and using GBH as my subject. GBH is speed is slow which give me slightly better chance to get a shot or two. But it is still a big challenge for me to get more usable photos. When he started to take off, I was too excited and lost the ability to track him and anticipate his next movement. There are many things need to be worked on to get good Birds in Fly shots.

  1. Photographing birds is hard. Iā€™m still working on getting decent shots when not in flight. In flight is way more difficult! This one turned out great! Congratulations!
